History

Originally known as the Yokosuka Jumper, the Sukajan jacket, or souvenir jacket, is a style of bomber jacket that originated in Yokosuka, Japan after World War II.

American soldiers sought local artists to embroider their military-issued bomber jackets with traditional Japanese elements such as cherry blossoms, dragons, and koi fish, embodying the blend of Japanese and American cultures.

The American servicemen would take them back to the U.S. as souvenirs as a way to commemorate their time in Japan, hence the name "souvenir jacket.”
